In the early 1990s the legendary Rosenhuegel-Studios, the largest Studios in Austria in which most of the popular "Viennese Films" of the 1930s and 1940s with Wil-ly Forst, Paul Hörbiger, Hans Moser, Paula Wessely a.o. had been shot, could be saved from demolition. Reopened after renovation under its new name "Film-stadt Wien" in November 1995, the traditional home of the Austrian Film long operated by the famous "Wien-Film", is now available to the national and international film industry as a modern Audiovisual Media location.

1919-1923 one of the largest and modern studios of that time in Europe was build by "Vi-ta Film" on green meadow, a studio lot of "American" dimensions, exceeding the already 1916 founded studios Sievering of the legendary film-pioneer Count "Sasha" Kolowrat.
1938 during Hitlers "Third Reich" the Rosenhuegel-Studios became the main location of the "Wien Film"
1945-1955 after World War II the "Wien Film" was divided into two parts (east and west) du-ring the occupation of the allied armies, the Rosenhuegel-Studios located in a "Russian" district became a so called "USIA" operation under Sowjet Administration.
1955 af-ter the signation of the "State Treaty" the Rosenhuegel Studios were given back to the Republic of Austria. Although the "Wien-Film" was reestablished under one management, the company could not recover from the east-west polarisation and went bankrupt.
1966 the ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) bought the Rosenhuegel Studios and used it for its TV Productions.
1990 the ORF no longer used the Studios and they were supposed to be turned into a Shopping Mall.
1991 rescue for the film industry came at last minute through a private Management Company "Filmstadt Wien Studio GmbH" fully supported by the government of Austria and the City of Vienna.
1996 after extensive renovation the new "Filmstadt Wien" opened itŐs doors as a "Four Wall Studio Operation" including a Business Park where independent companies offer their services to productions.
